Writing for Chicago Sports Weekly has become sort of a bi-weekly gig for me at this point, but so far I still get a thrill out of seeing my name in print, so I’m going to link to the latest piece.
The Disneyfication of Sports (pdf – page 30)
True to my blogging roots, I spend a lot of time kicking at the Worldwide Leader and what they have become.
I read your article and I liked it. Maybe I’m a dumbass, but I had no idea Disney owned the ESPN networks. But it makes sense, the way they’re always trying to sell us on the fantasy of it all. I guess we’re willing participants though. I’m a sucker for throwback nights. Anyhow, great writing. Keep it up.

And, of course, any time I write a curmudgeonly piece like that, I tend to feel a little sheepish after the bile wears off. There’s no doubt I apply a veneer of fantasy to my appreciation of sports. I just try to be aware of reality as well.
its only a matter of time before we get shit like “the Philly Phanatic presented by Goofy”
Good article. But I am curious, who wrote the byline: “the wonderful blog The Extrapolater”? Shameless self-promotion or cute Disney reference?
I guess the editor or the copy editor wrote it. The past two that I wrote didn’t have anything but my name on them.
